Modelling aquatic ecosystems with Ecopath, Ecosim and Ecospace
30 May - 3 June, 2016
This 5 day course will introduce basic concepts and modelling procedures of aquatic ecosystems. Participants will be provided with the principles behind EwE, and how to design, parameterize and analyse an ecological model with Ecopath. Introductory concepts of the temporal module Ecosim and the spatial-temporal module Ecospace will be presented. Jeroen Steenbek (EII) and myself will be teaching the course, with help from Dr. Villy Christensen (IOF, UBC), who will be visiting us in May-June.

Qualitative Mathematical Modelling of Complex Systems
13 - 15 June 2016
Qualitative mathematical modelling will be introduced in this 3 day course as a means to understand and predict the dynamics of complex biological and socio-economic systems where quantitative data is a limiting factor. The course will be taught by a colleague from Australia visiting Europe: Dr. Jeff Dambacher from CSIRO (Tasmania, Australia).

Both courses are organised under Barcelona Ocean training program. It is likely that next year there will be another edition of the first course (Ecopath with Ecosim). However, the second course will be more difficult to find in Europe in the next while.
